Hello!
I’ve had the good fortune of meeting many of you already during my two seasons of volunteering, but for those of you whom I haven’t- Hi. I’m Nate, and I’m the new Program Director here at Maine Adaptive.
First off, thank you. In a world where there are so many demands on your time, you’ve chosen to be part of this team, and that’s a big deal. Nothing we do would be possible without you. I’m looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you, and the unique gifts everyone brings, as we move forward together.
As for me, I’m stepping into this role with a deep and wide background as a professional snowsports instructor, a camp director, and a nonprofit leader. I have a Master’s degree in health sciences (my thesis was in neuroscience) from Montana State, and have spent time working in a variety of healthcare settings.
I’m profoundly passionate about Maine Adaptive’ s mission because I can’t imagine not having access to all of the experiences that have made me who I am. Everyone deserves the opportunity to enjoy being outside but, even more importantly, the lessons we learn in outdoor sports matter deeply. Dignity, confidence and empowerment grow hand in hand with the joy we feel in learning a new skill or working through a challenge.
The Maine Adaptive community is built on a legacy of excellence, and there are huge opportunities for growth and improvement. As I settle into my new role, I’m going to be reaching out with a variety of opportunities for input on what we can do to improve the volunteer experience; stay tuned.
Together, we’re going to do great things.
-Nate
