Later this month, Maine Adaptive will be buzzing with activity as we welcome 28 veterans with disabilities, along with their families and caregivers, to our 2026 Veterans No Boundaries (VNB) Winter Camp in Newry. When you add in family members and the incredible volunteers who make this weekend possible, more than 100 people will come together for four days of adaptive sports, connection, and community.
Now in its 23rd year, Veterans No Boundaries was created with a simple but powerful goal: to give veterans with disabilities and their families the chance to get outside, try adaptive recreation, and spend meaningful time together. For many families, these weekends offer something they haven’t experienced in a long time, doing activities side by side in a way that feels accessible, supportive, and fun.
Throughout the weekend, participants will spend two and a half days skiing and snowboarding at Sunday River Ski Resort, supported by our trained volunteers and staff. The group will also enjoy a full day at Maine Adaptive’s new headquarters, located at the former Hurricane Island Outward Bound School Newry base camp. That day will be filled with snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, crafts, shared meals, and time to relax and connect away from the slopes.
Veterans No Boundaries is about so much more than sports. Over the years, participants have told us how meaningful it is to spend time with other veterans who understand their experiences, and how powerful it can be to strengthen family bonds through shared outdoor adventures, especially after a life-changing injury or illness.
Maine Adaptive is incredibly grateful to the volunteers, partners, and supporters who make Veterans No Boundaries possible. Their time, energy, and generosity help create experiences that leave a lasting impact long after the weekend ends.
