There’s something special about a Maine summer morning on the golf course—fresh air, quiet fairways, and the steady rhythm of learning a game that meets you where you are. At Maine Adaptive, our adaptive golf program at Toddy Brook Golf Course in North Yarmouth is back in full swing, and we’re excited to share what makes this program such an important part of our summer season.
Golf That’s Built for Every Ability
All summer long, students of all abilities gather at Toddy Brook to build skills, confidence, and community in a supportive and welcoming environment. Whether you’re stepping into golf for the first time or returning to refine your game, our volunteer instructors are there every step of the way.
At Maine Adaptive, we believe a simple idea: anyone can play golf.
Building Skills in Every Part of the Game
Our program is designed to meet athletes where they are and help them grow at their own pace. Sessions typically focus on three key areas:
- Chipping & Putting: Developing precision, touch, and confidence around the green
- Driving & Full Swings: Building consistency, technique, and power
- Adaptive On-Course Play: Learning strategies and approaches tailored to individual abilities
Each session begins with a group warm-up before students are paired with volunteers to determine the best experience for the day. Some golfers head straight out onto the course, while others spend time on the driving range or putting green focusing on skill development, equipment adjustments, or individualized coaching.
Every pathway is valid. Time on the range can be just as valuable as time on the course, helping athletes build comfort, consistency, and confidence in their game.
Adaptive Equipment That Makes a Difference
We are committed to making golf accessible for athletes of all abilities. For participants who need additional support with standing or walking, we offer access to our Vertacat accessible golf carts, helping ensure a more comfortable and independent experience on the course.
Volunteers at the Heart of the Game
None of this would be possible without our volunteer instructors.
Volunteers help athletes navigate the course, support skill development, assist with adaptive equipment, and contribute to a positive, encouraging environment for everyone involved. Their presence is what turns a day of instruction into a shared experience of growth and connection.

Returning Volunteers
If you’re a returning volunteer, please enter your summer availability in the volunteer portal as soon as possible. Student scheduling depends on volunteer coverage, so timely updates make a big difference.
New Volunteers Welcome
If you’ve been thinking about getting involved, adaptive golf is a great place to start. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to learn and support athletes as they explore the game.
A Summer on the Green
As the season unfolds, we look forward to seeing familiar faces and welcoming new ones to Toddy Brook. Whether it’s your first swing or your hundredth round, there’s a place for you here.
We can’t wait to see everyone back out on the course this summer.
