Every winter, a special group of campers arrives in Maine ready to challenge themselves, try something new, and discover what’s possible on snow.
From February 27 through March 1, Maine Adaptive will once again welcome Camp sNOw Limits to Saddleback Mountain for a weekend dedicated to children and adults with limb loss and limb difference. More than a ski and snowboard camp, Camp sNOw Limits is an opportunity for participants and their families to build confidence, create lasting friendships, and experience the freedom that comes from exploring the outdoors without barriers.
A Partnership Built on Possibility
Camp sNOw Limits is part of the national Camp No Limits organization, which works to educate, mentor, and empower youth with limb loss and limb difference while creating a strong sense of community among participants and their families.
Through a long-standing partnership between Maine Adaptive, Camp No Limits, and Saddleback Mountain, families from across the country come together each winter to experience adaptive skiing and snowboarding in a welcoming and supportive environment.
For many campers, it’s their first opportunity to try winter sports. For others, it’s a chance to continue building skills and independence while reconnecting with friends they’ve made through the program.
Building Confidence One Run at a Time
Throughout the weekend, Maine Adaptive’s volunteer instructors provide individualized ski and snowboard instruction using adaptive equipment and teaching techniques tailored to each participant’s needs and goals.
The focus isn’t simply on learning a sport—it’s on helping campers discover what they are capable of achieving.
Some participants take their first turns on snow. Others challenge themselves on more advanced terrain. Every accomplishment, big or small, becomes a step toward greater confidence both on and off the mountain.
As Maine Adaptive Co-Executive Director Lizz Peacock explains:
“Our long-standing partnership with Camp No Limits is rooted in a shared commitment to empowering children with limb differences. Hosting Camp sNOw Limits at Saddleback Mountain is an incredible opportunity to bring families from across the country together in an environment where they can build confidence, develop new skills, and experience the joy and freedom of winter sports.”
Dreams That Start on the Slopes
For returning camper Michael, Camp sNOw Limits opened the door to an entirely new passion.
“I never snowboarded before Camp sNOw Limits,” he says. “It let me try out single-track skiing and helped me learn the basics of snowboarding, and inspired me to become a Paralympic snowboarder one day. I’ve learned a lot and practiced a lot since last year and can’t wait to show all the instructors how good I got.”
Stories like Michael’s are a reminder that adaptive recreation is about more than learning a skill. It’s about discovering new possibilities, setting bigger goals, and believing in yourself.
More Than a Weekend on Snow
While skiing and snowboarding are at the center of the experience, some of the most meaningful moments happen off the slopes.
Families gather to share stories, celebrate accomplishments, and connect with others who understand the unique experiences of raising or being a child with limb difference. New friendships are formed, milestones are celebrated, and a sense of belonging grows throughout the weekend.
For many families, Camp sNOw Limits becomes more than an annual event—it becomes a community they look forward to returning to year after year.
Winter Sports Without Limits
At Maine Adaptive, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the joy, challenge, and freedom of outdoor recreation.
Camp sNOw Limits embodies that belief. Through the dedication of volunteers, the support of Saddleback Mountain, and the partnership with Camp No Limits, participants are able to access adaptive instruction, equipment, and unforgettable experiences at no cost to their families.
As another season of Camp sNOw Limits approaches, we look forward to welcoming campers back to the mountain and witnessing the courage, determination, and joy that define this remarkable weekend.
Because when the right support is in place, there truly are no limits.
