Serve Up Some Fun with Adaptive Pickleball This Summer

Pickleball has a way of drawing people in quickly—fast rallies, plenty of laughter, and a game that’s easy to learn but always leaves room to grow. This summer, Maine Adaptive is back on the courts at Wicked Pickle in South Portland for another season of adaptive pickleball, and we’re excited to keep the momentum going.

Back on the Court in South Portland

We’re thrilled to return to Wicked Pickle for our second season. From day one, the space has offered more than just courts—it’s created a welcoming environment where players of all abilities can feel comfortable, supported, and ready to play.

Whether someone is picking up a paddle for the first time or returning to refine their game, each session is shaped around individual goals, comfort levels, and abilities. The focus is always the same: make the game accessible, engaging, and fun.

A Program Built for Every Player

Adaptive pickleball at Maine Adaptive is designed to meet players where they are.

Sessions blend skill-building, game play, movement, and connection. Some participants focus on learning the basics—grip, positioning, and rallying—while others work on strategy, consistency, and competitive play. No matter the starting point, every athlete is supported in finding success on the court.

The pace is flexible, the environment is encouraging, and progress looks different for everyone—and that’s exactly how it should be.

A Season That Runs All Summer

Our adaptive pickleball program runs most Fridays from June 26 through October 2, giving participants a consistent weekly opportunity to stay active, connected, and engaged throughout the summer and early fall.

Student registration is required for participation.

Volunteers Who Keep the Game Moving

Behind every rally and every high-five is a dedicated group of volunteers who make the program possible.

Volunteers help participants learn the game, keep play moving smoothly, offer encouragement, and celebrate milestones big and small. They don’t just support the program—they help shape the experience on and off the court.

No prior pickleball experience is needed to get involved. If you’ve been considering volunteering this summer, this is a great place to start. The learning curve is easy, and the impact is immediate.
