Summer Adventures Are Here — Join Us on the Water

The warm temperatures this week have us fully in the spirit of summer, and we’re excited to officially kick off Maine Adaptive’s summer programming. We began the season with our annual early-season rides at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, and from here, the full summer schedule is underway.

Summer Program Schedule

Beginning in June, participants can join us each week across a variety of adaptive recreation programs:

  • Golf: Most Mondays at Toddy Brook in North Yarmouth
  • Paddling: Every other Wednesday at Range Pond in Poland
  • Cycling: Every other Thursday at Gambo Fields in Windham
  • Pickleball: Most Fridays at Wicked Pickle in South Portland

These programs offer opportunities for individuals of all abilities to stay active, build skills, and enjoy the outdoors with the support of trained volunteers and adaptive equipment.

Featured Program: Adaptive Paddling at Range Pond

This week, we’re highlighting one of our most popular summer programs—adaptive paddling at Range Pond State Park in Poland.

Our paddling program brings together students of all abilities to kayak, canoe, and paddleboard in a supportive and welcoming environment. Participants are matched with adaptive equipment tailored to their needs, including custom seating systems, paddle adaptations, and outriggers, all designed to create a safe and successful experience on the water.

All paddling sessions at Range Pond are offered free of charge, including park access. Pre-registration and lesson confirmation are required.

Special Summer Trips

In addition to our regular programming, we are also excited to offer several signature paddling experiences this summer for experienced participants:

  • Acadia National Park Trips: September 5–6
  • Songo Locks River Trip (Naples): September 23

These outings offer a chance to explore some of Maine’s most iconic waterways in a supportive adaptive recreation setting.

Powered by Volunteers

Our summer programs would not be possible without the dedication of our volunteer community. Heather, Brandon, and the entire program team are looking forward to getting everyone back out on the water this season.

Volunteers play a vital role—supporting students on and off the water, paddling alongside participants, and helping create a welcoming and inclusive experience for all.

For Returning Volunteers

If you’re a returning volunteer, please log your summer availability in the volunteer portal as soon as possible. We are unable to confirm student schedules without volunteer coverage in place.

New Volunteers Welcome

If you’ve been thinking about getting involved, paddling is a great place to start. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to learn and support our community on the water.

Let’s Make This Summer Unforgettable

We’re looking forward to a full season of connection, growth, and outdoor adventure across Maine. Whether you’re returning to program or joining us for the first time, we can’t wait to see you out on the water.
