Hope and Healing
with the Pierce Family

Meet Alex and Rachael Pierce.  Their Journey with Maine Adaptive began more than 30 years ago at a time when they needed hope most.

Alex was a baby when she sustained a traumatic brain injury that changed the course of her and her family’s life. As her mother, Rachael, sat beside her daughter’s hospital bed, uncertain about what the future might hold, a commercial for Maine Adaptive came on the TV. In that moment, she felt something she hadn’t in weeks – reassurance that everything was going to be okay, and a determination to make sure Alex experiences a life without barriers or limitations.

That small sign became a turning point. Through Maine Adaptive, Alex discovered the joy of skiing and the confidence that comes from being active and included. Rachael found a supportive community that inspired her to pursue a career in disability law and even led her to meet her life partner and fellow volunteer, Brian.

The Pierce family’s story is one of thousands made possible by our generous donors and supporters. Your gift ensures that every lesson remains cost-free and every family has access to the joy, freedom, and belonging that come through adaptive sports.

Through December 31, your year-end gift empowers Mainers with disabilities to experience what’s possible. Will you give today to support families like the Pierces?

Giving through your IRA is a tax-smart and simple way to support MASR. If you’re age 70½ or older, you can make a gift directly from your IRA using a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). This allows you to avoid paying income tax on the donated portion of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) — and your gift can count toward satisfying your RMD for the year.

To make a QCD, simply contact your IRA administrator. It’s an easy way to create a lasting impact through your support of Maine Adaptive.

Supporting Maine Adaptive through a Donor Advised Fund is a simple and impactful way to contribute to our mission. To give, recommend a grant to Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation through your DAF provider. Be sure to include our EIN (01-0388818) and indicate if the gift is for a specific program or purpose.

Maine Adaptive partners with DAF Direct to make your gift easy and seamless. To get started, click here.

One of the most meaningful ways to support Maine Adaptive is by including us in your will or estate plans. A bequest is a simple, powerful way to ensure that the transformative power of adaptive recreation continues for generations to come.

By naming Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation as a beneficiary in your will, trust, or other planned giving instrument, you are making a lasting commitment to inclusion, independence, and access to the outdoors for individuals with disabilities.

Your legacy gift can take many forms:

  • A specific dollar amount
  • A percentage of your estate
  • The remainder of your estate after other obligations are met
  • A specific asset, such as real estate or securities

You can designate your bequest to support Maine Adaptive’s general operations or a specific program that is meaningful to you.
