Newry, ME – February 11, 2025 – Maine Adaptive is thrilled to host the annual New England Visually Impaired Festival (NEVIFest) at Sugarloaf Mountain from February 10-12, 2025. This unique three-day festival provides individuals with any level of visual impairment or blindness the opportunity to learn or enhance their skiing skills with guidance from experienced volunteer blind guide instructors. NEVIFest kicks off with registration on Sunday afternoon, followed by three full days of snow-filled fun and expert instruction. Participants receive professional alpine skiing lessons from volunteer adaptive ski instructors and have the chance to test their skills on an Alpine race course. Additionally, a special training program will be available for individuals, family members, or caregivers interested in becoming guides for visually impaired skiers.
Evening activities foster camaraderie and meaningful connections among attendees, enhancing the overall festival experience. A celebratory banquet is held on Tuesday night to bring everyone together to honor the festival, share stories, and foster a sense of community among blind skiers and riders.
Maine Adaptive provides all lessons and equipment at no cost, ensuring that all participants can fully engage in the winter sports experience.
NEVI*Fest offers a fun and supportive environment, helping participants build confidence on the slopes while forming lasting friendships. This event would not be possible without the generous support of Sugarloaf Mountain, volunteer instructors, and dedicated donors.
