Summer on the trail has a rhythm all its own—steady pedaling, open space, and the kind of progress you can feel with every mile. Our adaptive cycling program in Windham is already rolling strong this season at Gambo Fields and along the Mountain Division Trail, and we’re excited to share what’s ahead.
A Strong Start on a Standout Trail
We’re grateful to be back on the Mountain Division Trail for another season after a successful first year in Windham. From the start, the community’s welcome and the quality of the trail made a lasting impression on our program.
Riders quickly discovered what makes this corridor so special: a smooth, scenic, and accessible path that supports both confidence-building rides and longer endurance challenges. Many participants found themselves going farther, feeling stronger, and gaining skills more quickly in this encouraging environment.
Riding at Your Own Pace
No two riders arrive with the same goals, and that’s exactly how we design the program.
Depending on each participant’s interests, ability, and comfort level, our staff and volunteers tailor every ride to meet them where they are. Some cyclists focus on shorter routes that build confidence and familiarity with adaptive equipment. Others take on longer rides that emphasize endurance, pacing, and independence over time.
Every ride is an opportunity to grow—at the right pace for each individual.
Adaptive Bikes for Every Body
Our cycling program is built around access and choice. Riders have the opportunity to use a range of adaptive cycles, including both hand-powered and foot-powered options.
Our team works closely with each student to determine the right fit—ensuring equipment supports comfort, safety, and personal goals. The right setup can open the door to entirely new experiences on the trail, and we see that transformation every week in Windham.
A Community That Makes It Possible
We’re especially thankful to Windham Parks & Recreation for their ongoing care of the 10-mile section of the Mountain Division Trail. Their commitment helps create a welcoming, well-maintained space where our riders can thrive.
Partnerships like this are what make adaptive recreation possible—not just the equipment or the programming, but the shared investment in accessible outdoor spaces.
Volunteers on the Trail
Volunteers are a driving force behind every ride.
From helping riders get fitted into cycles to riding alongside participants and offering encouragement along the way, volunteers help turn each session into a safe, supportive, and empowering experience.
If you’ve been thinking about getting involved this summer, cycling is a great entry point. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to learn and support riders as they find their rhythm on the trail.
