Our recent adventure ride to Bug Light was one for the books—one of our largest group rides in recent memory, packed with energy, effort, and some incredible stories of firsts, breakthroughs, and teamwork.
The day was hot, but spirits were high as students and volunteers set off on the scenic 11-mile round-trip ride. For some, it was their first Adventure Cycle; for others, their first ride to Bug Light. Either way, the trail offered something new for everyone.

Highlights From the Trail
- Kai and Reed initially planned to ride only halfway—but by the end of the day, they had completed the full route and absolutely crushed it. A strong ride, powered by grit and encouragement.
- Ivrey set the tone early by riding at the front of the pack, confidently pushing the pace on her personal handcycle. Unfortunately, she caught a flat during the lunch break. But even that didn’t bring her down—she kept smiling and stayed in great spirits.
- Ty had a fantastic ride and got to enjoy the day alongside Gail, making for an extra special experience.
- Kate ran into a few barriers—literally. Her trike didn’t fit through some of the trail’s narrower features, but thanks to some excellent teamwork, it didn’t slow her down a bit. She crushed the route like a pro.
- Sam helped lead the group for most of the morning before peeling off—because his house is practically on the trail! He decided to head home for lunch, but his leadership early in the ride kept us all moving smoothly.
- Cedar managed the heat well and stayed cool and composed for the entire ride—no small feat on such a warm day.
- Natalie soaked in the beauty of the trail and Bug Light itself, chatting with fellow riders and volunteers the whole way. Her joy was infectious.
- Jasmine was excited to ride again with Desirea and started the day unsure whether she could ride 11 miles. But she powered through the whole route with confidence and excitement, proving to herself just how strong she is.

A Well-Earned Break With a View

Lunchtime brought much-needed shade, courtesy of Mary’s pop-up tents, and a chance to relax and enjoy the sweeping ocean views at Bug Light. Many of our riders—and even some volunteers—had never been to the lighthouse before. There were a lot of wide eyes, a lot of smiles, and a lot of people making plans to return with friends and family.
It’s not just about finishing the ride. It’s about discovering what’s possible, finding new places, and doing it all in community.
Bug Light reminded us what Adventure Cycle is all about: pushing boundaries, supporting each other, and making unforgettable memories on the trail. If you missed this ride don’t worry we have a lot more opportunities coming up, Brunswick, Pineland Farms, Eastern Trail Scarborough, Bangor, and Peaks Island.
